Maharashtra's Agri Tourism Policy outlines specific guidelines for accommodations to promote sustainable farm-based tourism. These rules limit room numbers based on farmland size and emphasize eco-friendly construction. Centers must register with the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) to operate legally.
Room Limits
Accommodations scale with land area:
-
Up to 2 acres: Maximum 4 rooms, each at least 150 sq. ft.
-
2-5 acres: Maximum 6 rooms, each at least 150 sq. ft.
-
5+ acres: Maximum 8 rooms plus up to 2 dormitories (25 beds total).
Each room requires an attached toilet and bathroom, with eco-friendly building practices encouraged.
Permissions
No urban development approval needed for up to 8 rooms and basic amenities. Projects exceeding 8 rooms count as commercial and require town planning permissions.
Lessees with a 10-year lease and farmer's NOC can register centers, enabling partnerships for small farms.
Other Facilities
Centers may include kitchens for local meals and sell farm products like food or handicrafts. Display MTDC authorization boards on-site
